Having fun in Balatro
I’ve been playing a bit of Balatro these days, and I’ve been having a lot of fun!
While I wouldn’t exactly describe myself as very experienced, I did notice a few things…
Stakes
# | Stake | Effect |
---|---|---|
1 | White Stake | Base difficulty |
2 | Red Stake | Small Blind gives no reward money |
3 | Green Stake | Required score scales faster for each Ante |
4 | Black Stake | Jokers have 30% chance of having an Eternal sticker (can’t be sold or destroyed) |
5 | Blue Stake | -1 Discard |
6 | Purple Stake | Required score scales even faster for each Ante |
7 | Orange Stake | Jokers have 30% chance to have a Perishable sticker (debuffed after five rounds) |
8 | Gold Stake | Jokers have 30% chance to have a Rental sticker ($1 to buy, but cost an additional $3 each round) |
In my opinion, things start getting interesting with the Purple Stake. The aggressive scoring scaling makes decisions that much more critical.
How do you score?
The idea is pretty simple …
You want some kind of chip joker, some kind of +mult joker, and then mulitplicative jokers, ideally scaling.
I will revisit this a bit later with more details. WIP
