I’ve been playing a bit of Balatro these days, and I’ve been having a lot of fun!

While I wouldn’t exactly describe myself as very experienced, I did notice a few things…

Stakes

# Stake Effect
1 White Stake Base difficulty
2 Red Stake Small Blind gives no reward money
3 Green Stake Required score scales faster for each Ante
4 Black Stake Jokers have 30% chance of having an Eternal sticker (can’t be sold or destroyed)
5 Blue Stake -1 Discard
6 Purple Stake Required score scales even faster for each Ante
7 Orange Stake Jokers have 30% chance to have a Perishable sticker (debuffed after five rounds)
8 Gold Stake Jokers have 30% chance to have a Rental sticker ($1 to buy, but cost an additional $3 each round)

In my opinion, things start getting interesting with the Purple Stake. The aggressive scoring scaling makes decisions that much more critical.

How do you score?

The idea is pretty simple …

You want some kind of chip joker, some kind of +mult joker, and then mulitplicative jokers, ideally scaling.

I will revisit this a bit later with more details. WIP
